President's Report April 2018

After St Patrick's Night on March 17th the next 10 days were quiet as the rains continued to pour in and we mopped up and hoped for the best. It was a really bright start in April with the sun shining when we had the Easter Sunday Lunch on the 1st with the girls getting into the swing of things in their Easter bonnets and brightening the Villa even more! Margaret Dorward came out the winner with a floral creation made by her husband John.
Once again the Carvery Lunch was greatly appreciated by the 30 members and guests who attended. Then 2 days later it was all hands on deck for the Quiz Night on the 3rd with Quiz Masters Maz and John Kelly firing the questions
On the 18th we had our invitation Petanca match when we hosted the Arroyo club. This was our best results to date although they still managed to win - we were a close second! A total of 50 people attended and 48 sat down for a very enjoyable lunch. Thanks to all who helped to make this day another great success.

We are now getting organised for the Dinner Dance Saturday 21st when we have 30 members and guests looking forward to hearing our new entertainer - Danny Stone. We hope you like him - then a quick turnaround to get ready for the Bingo on the 24th when Valerie will be doing her stuff to make sure we are all winners.

For those of you who attend the Villa you will have noticed our new addition to the front of the building ‘A SKIP'! With the weather improving we plan to reroof the damaged part of the Millennium Terrace, clean out the Art Room and the Craft Room and in general have a much needed Spring Clean. There will be enough work and more for everyone who wants to come along and help - so we look forward to seeing as many people as possible to assist on the day. So that is planned for Thursday May 3rd at 10.00 am - wear your old togs and come along.

The Month of May looks like it will be every bit as busy as April with Sunday Lunch on the 6th then Quiz Night on the 8th Then on the 19th the celebration of the Royal wedding when we hope we can produce something a bit special. Our aim this year as the better weather is approaching is to try and have more events on the Terrace but this can only happen if you the members and your guests attend. Every event this year has been well don't stop - the council will try to make the Villa a happy place to be - we just need your company.
Wednesday and Friday the Villa is open for Petanca and if you don't play come along for a coffee and feel free to avail yourself of our great little library or just keep me company.

I would like to relay our best wishes to Paula Harris who has been in hospital. We hope you are feeling much better now and we see you back at the Villa as soon as possible.

I also have to deliver some sad news that we received from Jill Marriott re email: ‘she is so sorry she will be unable to renew her membership as she would have difficulty getting to the Villa from where she resides'...hopefully we can find someone who will be able to pick her up some Sunday and we can have the pleasure of her company at Sunday Lunch. We all send our very best wishes to Jill.
