The President’s Report February 2018

Since the AGM in January everything seems to have gone like clockwork. We have a full council now that Stephanie has agreed to be co-opted on and they are all enthusiastic and have lots of new ideas for the coming year.

Petanca under the Guidance of John Dorward and John Kelly has got off to a very good start with the promise of a few matches with visiting teams, so we can look forward to showing them how well we have improved. We had 28 people attend the Quiz when John and Maz were the Quiz Masters. As Chef John was on holiday, John D. made Chicken Curry and Sandra S made Cottage Pie and an excellent meal was rounded off with a delicious cake made by Anne Traill with candles on it to celebrate Nick Potts’ 80th birthday.

We were unable to get an entertainer at such short notice for our Chinese New Year Party/Dance so we made do with our own music. The Villa was decorated with Chinese lantern, fans and parasols and the place looked stunning. The menu was also based on the Chinese theme and proved to be enjoyed by all. Everyone loved the extra touches of the fortune cookies and Prawn crackers. My thanks to all who helped set tables and the decoration – special thanks to all the members who donated prizes for the raffle.

One of our main aims this year has to be trying to increase the membership and I’m delighted to say that we have four new members Join us. It was very heartening to receive the cash donations even donations of tea, coffee and biscuits for the bar…Thank you all.

On Tuesday 20th February Valerie has agreed to run another Bingo evening for us – at the new time of 7.00 for 7.30 pm. The usual routine/ bring a plate of food to share. The next Sunday Lunch is on March 4th when we will be serving Buffet Style so you can select as much or as little of what you like. This used to be very popular and I hope it will be successful enough to coax all you non-attendees off the couch or sun bed! Then Quiz Night on March 6th when Maz and John will again be getting our brains into gear. We are also having a St Patrick’s Night Dinner Dance on the 17th of March and are hoping to get an entertainer for that night but again it’s difficult at such short notice, but we have Stephanie on the case, so here’s hoping.

My thanks to everyone for supporting the British Society and I hope this will continue for the future.
