President's Report March 2018

The past month certainly hasn’t been boring when I seem to have spent most of my days at the Villa.

As most of you have probably realised by now I am not a great Bingo fan but Valerie worked her magic and made the February event into a very enjoyable night…so I would recommend it as a date for your diary. Of course as always happens on the night, the same people seem to win all the prizes – but there was still a tidy little sum to put towards the club funds. So thanks Val for all your work.

The Quiz Night was well attended with John and Maz acting as Quiz masters and forcing us to get our brains into action. No one won the Jackpot so there is a roll over that will make the April Jackpot well worth coming for! The new time of 7.00 for 7.30 pm for Quiz Night proved to be a popular change. Thanks John and Maz for all your work in this.

Our first Sunday Lunch of the year was a surprise when 42 people atended, helping to make it a great success. Everyone enjoyed the Buffet style main course and John our Chef did us proud with some delicious food. We had great comments of ‘the best lunch ever’ and ‘Hope we do this again’ so the plan for Easter Sunday will be along the same lines. We were delighted to welcome Catherine Burholm as a guest of Roger and Linda’s. Quite a few members adjourned to the bar, so it was after 6.00 pm when we closed the bar.

What can I say about St Patrick’s Night? First problem the Entertainer called off due to illness then the water poured down the dance area walls! If you weren’t there you probably think the next sentence will be we had to close and make it an early night – but no! It turned into a great night with of course myself playing the music. Most people wore green and were out to enjoy themselves. Again we had great support from the decorations that made even the poor damp Villa Luisa look welcoming on such a wet night. The highlight of the night had to be the celebration of Seafield’s 88th birthday, after he blew out the candles he bought everyone a drink. I finally announced the last waltz just before 12.30 and even then the bar was still open! All you members who were not there – you missed a great night!

It would be wrong if I did not convey my thanks to my council and members who put in so much work to make each event so special. They volunteer to decorate the Villa, wash glasses, cutlery and table covers (to have everything gleaming), organise Petanca, sell Raffle tickets and for being there when they are needed. Thank you.

Unfortunately not everything has gone perfectly this month: First we had the problem of the Dance area being flooded and this affects the electrics which then causes the Alarm system to go onto battery, but then, when the battery fails, we can have call outs from the company. Thankfully in my other life I knew something about Electrics – so I was able to solve a few problems. I have contacted the builder who did the work last year on the roof of the Villa and he has agreed to come back and look at it when things dry out. So watch this space and pray for dry weather.

We also had a problem with the gas as the certificate had run out last year – we had an inspection and agreed to have some work done this week – so Repsol delivered the gas and we could go ahead with St Patrick’s Night.

In general I think we are doing well…we are getting great support at all our events so far…but that needs to continue. Our next event is Easter Sunday Lunch – so please put your name on the list or contact me on 952 575 422 or any member of council.

As I’m writing this the sun is shining and things look as if they are drying up - so don’t tell me there’s nothing happening at the club – come and join in and see for yourself.

Look forward to seeing you all there,
